Dates: April 20 – April 24, 2016
Kyiv International Short Film Festival is the biggest Ukrainian festival of short films that in 2016 celebrates its 5th anniversary. KISFF traditionally takes place in Kinopanorama cinema, and known for its very cozy and friendly atmosphere. I used to think that I don’t like short films, but the festival has totally changed my perspective.
– The film program consists of competition program and non-competition program. All films are presented in their original language, with English subtitles. Competition program is divided into such groups as National Competition and International Competition. Non-competition program includes best short films from all over the world that already have received some festival awards, short films retrospective, special events and world premieres, latest achievements of Ukrainian cinema and animation.
– The part of the film program that deserves a special mention is the open-air night screenings in the beautiful Mariinsky Park that definitely contributes to the special atmosphere of the festival (one of the traditional selections for open-air screenings is called In the mood for love 😉 )
– Educational section of KISFF includes the Short Film School, a cinema school with both Ukrainian and international artists as lecturers that takes place at Kyiv Academy of Media Arts. During the festival participants can learn more about the principles of film production, promotion, special and visual effects, festival activities, successful co-production etc.
– Professional section includes Short Doctoring, where young directors can receive the opinions and advices from professionals about the script, finding financing for a short film, production, distribution.
Kinopamorama cinema is the main venue of Kyiv International Short Film Festival. It’s really cool and a truly unique place that has been open since 1950s. Seats, the curtain on the stage, the design of the little balcony – everything has survived till our time and looks like an original old cinema. There is a bar with sofas on the first floor. It’s situated in the city center and surrounded by restaurants and cafes. The closest one, Dogs & Tails, is located right on the back of the cinema building.
Address: Kyiv, 19, Shota Rustaveli str.
“Rakushka” (“the shell”) – the outdoor concert venue located in the Mariinsky Park. It might be still a bit chilly during the evenings in spring, take some warm clothes or blankets!
Address: Mariinsky Park, the closest metro station is Arsenalna.
