Over 20 years ago a landslide destroyed a road. Now, this strip of nature in the Podil neighborhood of Kyiv has been transformed by DIYSTVO into a festival of urban self-organization and creativity. This year there were experimental musicians and a DIY print workshop. Diystvo’s do-it-yourself approach is derived from the festival’s horizontal organizing philosophy – it is anti-hierarchical and encourages partygoers, artists, activists, anyone who are willing to work for free to transform the piece of wildlife into a public space. During this year’s festival, a new ladder that connected Uppertown and the lower neighborhood of Podil, and a new stage were built. This is a niche event that has a chill atmosphere and unites proactive people (while I was waiting for a band to play people near me were talking about eco-activism :).
